So unfortunately, Chinese food is delicious. Those big steaming foam trays filled with ingredients you can't identify in sauces generally only described by their color, for some reason, always seem to please. For about 20 minutes, until you feel like a hippo, and it's all you can do not to take a three hour nap. SO, I avoid Chinese Restaurants because YOU CAN MAKE IT AT HOME and it's way better. End rant, just try it. I like to eat mine with extra soy sauce, Matt likes his on a bed of those crispy little noodles (Chow somethings). Serve with rice, or not. It's up to you how to accessorize your Chop Suey!
INGREDIENTS:
1lb Wild Turkey, usually close to one small breast (or just use chicken)
1 med/large Onion, quartered and thinly sliced
1.5 cups Celery, diced
2-14oz cans Bean Sprouts (drain the stinky water out and rinse them)
2 Tbs Garlic, diced
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper
2 Tbs Arrowroot/Corn Starch
1 Tbs Soy Sauce
1 tsp Sugar
1 cup hot Water & 1/3 cup cold Water
Chop your meat up into bite-sized pieces. Heat about 2 Tbs Coconut or Vegetable Oil in a large skillet (with a lid) over medium heat. When it gets nice and hot, add your Turkey and the S&P and sear for about 5 minutes. Add onion, celery, and garlic and cook another 5 minutes, stirring regularly. Add the HOT water and bean sprouts, put the cover on your skillet, and cook another 5 minutes.
While that's cooking, mix your COLD water, starch, soy sauce, and sugar in a little bowl. Remove the lid from the skillet (once the 5 minutes are up) and add the mixture. Mix and cook a final five minutes or longer until thickened.
